As the World Wide Web emerged as a marketing tool, I extended my design skills into the new medium, designing Packard Bell's original Web site and contributing to many redesigns and expansions. Later, with publisher Informant Communications, I gained experience with data-driven Web sites and electronic commerce.

Informatix, Inc.

Informatix, Inc.

This San Francisco-based technology consultant needed a professional, corporate-cool look to impress its high-profile clients in California government.

All About You

All About You Concierge Service

This Maryland-based startup is off to a great start, with an elegant, user-friendly web site that combines style and function. The stylish Flash-animated header subtly hints at the company's diverse range of services, and a VIP account system lets users request those services day or night.

Cocoa Symposium

Cocoa Symposium

A simple Web site for a symposium about cocoa, sponsored by the University of California, Davis. The home page uses a technique for wrapping text around an irregular shape that I read about on this page.

Banner Ad image

Animated Banner Ads

My childhood years spent watching Hanna-Barbera cartoons come in handy whenever I'm called upon to create animated banner ads. Look closely -- objects often back up a little before zooming out of frame, and slow down before stopping. Playing with the subtleties of movement make these ads a fun break from static design.

HLN Consulting

HLN Consulting

When the amount of information in a web site is particularly dense, clarity of navigation becomes especially important. This was the problem faced by HLN Consulting, which came to I and my Designland associates to help them tame their sprawling story. My contributions included a main menu and submenus with an automatic "you are here" highlight effect, and a set of Dreamweaver templates to allow HLN to keep its message growing.

The Wild Artichoke

The Wild Artichoke

In this site redesign for The Wild Artichoke, a Yorba Linda, CA restaurant, I cooked up a database-driven content management system, allowing the restaurant to update the site whenever it needs to, no Web design experience required. With side dishes like a built-in mailing list and a form to order catering services, the redesigned site gives The Wild Artichoke new ways to reach out to its customers.

Designland

Designland

This successful L.A. design firm created its own look and feel, and relied on me to add the technical touches needed to produce an eye-opening interactive experience. The online portfolio uses a mixture of VBScript and Javascript to organize items and generate properly-sized pop-up windows.

Cleaner By Nature

Cleaner By Nature

A much simpler assignment here: Adding a DHTML drop-down menu system to this site for an environmentally-friendly dry cleaning chain.

Healing Art

Healing Art

Healing Art, a Santa Monica, CA arts organization, asked me to redesign its web site. I responded with a menu-and-border effect that is versatile enough to hold any content they might generate, from press releases to photo galleries.

Informant Web sites

Informant Communications

As part of the Web department for Informant Communications Group, I helped expand their flagship publications, Microsoft Office Solutions (now offline) and Delphi Informant Magazine into revenue-generating online magazines, using Microsoft Active Server Pages, VBScript and SQL Server. Among my contributions:

  • Consulted on overall look and feel of sites
  • Developed software library, allowing developers to upload software
  • Designed site search tool
  • Established and maintained message board system

ms office conference

Microsoft Office Deployment and Development Conference

Another facet of Informant Communications is its popular conferences for developers, which require listings that change frequently as new speakers and sessions are added. My Web site for the 2001 Orlando, Florida conference built all pages from Microsoft Access database, which allowed conference organizers to make their own updates and see their changes instantly on the site.

focus on your future web site

Packard Bell NEC

Packard Bell's theme for its 1996 launch was "Focus On Your Future," which I used in this online brochure showcasing new models and features.
